my hands still smell like jake.
can they stay like this forever? please?
my dog has passed away.
jake’s been suffering from heart failure since last winter. we put him on medication & tried home remedies, like flax seed. jake was doing really well but we knew he would eventually go.
this last week more & more fluid was building up around jake’s heart & in his lungs. he could hardly breath. yesterday he stopped eating & drinking.
today my family & i sat with jake in the meadow by our house. his breathing was labored but he still interacted with us. we could tell he was in a lot of pain. we decided that we would take jake to the vet in the evening to stop his suffering. about 20 minutes later, he found a cool spot to lie down. once, he tried to howl. he slowly stopped breathing. i had my hand on him the whole time.
i’m glad i was there. i’m glad we didn’t have to take him to the vet. i’m glad he’s not in any pain. i still wish we could have had him longer, nonetheless.
i’d never seen my step-dad cry before.
we are having jake cremated. my mom let me choose the urn. we are going to spread some of his ashes in the meadow, some at lake elizabeth (his favorite spot) & keep the rest. we have a lock of his fur, too.
jake was the best dog. my sweet bubbas. i miss him already.
